The story of ancient southwesterners is the story of people of the sun. There are a vast number of symbols that represent or are used to call forth water. There are also many ceremonies to influence the coming of water.

Water is the source of life and health. As drought came and went in the southwestern desert, ceremony surrounding the invocation of water intensified.
