Across North America and beyond, natives communicated fluently by talking with their hands. Tribes as near as 50 miles away could speak in unintelligible tongues, but hand talk was universal across the continent. The Comanche said it came from Mexico, but is was used fluently from Hudson Bay to Texas, so who really knows where it started. It probably just evolved communally across the indiginous American world.
