My husband happens to have a week off at the same time the kids are on spring break. Miracle! Adventure time!

10,000 to 35,000 years ago there was an ice age inland sea in Searles Valley, CA. As the water evaporated it left these calcified pinnacles called “tufa” that stand up to 150 ft high. img_8805


Some in my family think the drive across the desert over to the tufa is the highlight of this little side trip.
