I’m such a tourist. Oh, so what? I’ve never heard anybody say that I wasn’t a geek. Today I hiked out to the remote location where they used to film the TV show M*A*S*H. Since I bought my Malibu Creek State Park Trail Map I’ve been itching to take this out-and-back hike to the spot. However, I’m usually with my kids who aren’t quite ready to do a 6 mile walk without making me miserable. So the M*A*S*H Site has been sitting there at the far right of my map looking remote and impossible and fueling my frustration. That’s why God invented summer daycamp!
This week the kids are happily ensconced for, part of the day at least, in amusing daycamp pursuits and in somebody else’s care. And good riddance. At least they aren’t hanging around the house bickering with each other. After I drop them off at camp, I can’t get on the trail fast enough. My only regret is that I have to park the car while dropping them off. If I could just decelerate to a slow roll and shove them out of the car it would save so much time, but what would the neighbors say?
Today was the day to hike out to the M*A*S*H Site and I was not disappointed. (More info here…) At first I made a false start on the wrong trailhead and boy was I glad, because what greeted me at the treeline was a doe and two fawns.
Once I got on the right trail here is the path I took:

Then arriving at the M*A*S*H Site:
Second verse, same as the first. I turned it around and walked it all back in reverse. I so prefer loop hikes because I am easily bored, but at least walking back you get to look in a different direction so it can feel like a whole new experience.
